Why wouldn't Sallie Mae put in writing that they want $50 per loan to process Financial Hardship Deferments?

Deferments should be free to process, did you specifically state that you wanted to apply for a hardship deferment? Hardship deferments are based on income and the only thing you need to turn in is proof of income. Also, if you have low income you can get a free cell phone.
